Mapping HIV Progression and Co-Factors Affecting AIDS Survival Time in Women and Men on ART in India

چکیده
HIV is continuum of progressive damage traversed through survival time. Using data from 204 positive women and men, we carried-out survival analysis using Kaplan– Meier curves, Cox proportional hazard regression and Markov-chain model to map CD4 progression and health-condition outcomes. Progression was better among nondefaulters {adjusted hazard ratio [AHR]-0.11, 95% CI 0.03–0.31 (Log rank p<0.001) (chi2=73.62, p<0.001)}, those with higher self-perceived adherence and early initiation of ART. TB-HIV co-infection translated in lower progression and even lower among women [AHR]-0.08, 95% CI 0.02–0.28; Log rank p<0.001) (chi2=71.72, p<0.001). Similar result was observed in women who reported side effects and who defaulted treatment. Immune reconstitution emerged strongly from Markov-chain model, with striking gender gap. Probability of women maintaining working condition was quite low (0.88) as compared to men (0.94). Transition to better health from bed-ridden state was also lower among women. A health-care delivery gender-responsive.

Background and purpose: Mortality in HIV-positive patients is due to various reasons such as progression to AIDS or co-infection with AIDS and TB or other causes. In survival analysis, competing risk methods are used if there are different reasons for death. The purpose of this article was to identify the factors affecting various causes of death using competing risk methods. Materials and met...

متن کاملFactors Affecting Treatment Adherence among HIV-Positive Patients in Eritrea
Strict adherence to anti-retroviral therapy (ART) is critical for sustained suppression of viral replication and prevention of opportunistic infections that often lead to disability or death. With increased availability of ART in recent years, achievement of optimal adherence has become very important in the management of HIV/AIDS in Eritrea. To assess the factors affecting adherence to ART of ...
متن کاملComparative study of predictive ability of AIDS incidence in HIV positive people using Markov model according to two criteria, WHO and CDC in CD4 cell categorization
Background: The Multi state Markov models have extensively application with categorization of laboratory marker of CD4 cells for evaluation of HIV disease progression. These models with different states result in different effects of covariates and prediction of HIV disease trend. The main purpose of this study was comparison of four and five states models with the three- state in order to sele...
متن کاملNo Role of Herpes Simplex Virus Type 2 (HSV-2) Infection on HIV Progression in Naïve HIV Patients
Background: Herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) is a common infection in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients and may accelerate HIV progression by rising HIV viral load and decreasing CD4 count. However, the available data regarding the influence of HSV-2 seropositivity on HIV progression in HIV individuals are inconclusive. Therefore, we aimed to determine HSV-2 seroprevalence in na&iu...
